Lodi-Woodbridge Area
Lodi is located in northern California, approximately seventy-five miles east of San Francisco, fifty miles south of Sacramento (the state capital), and seventy-five miles from the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains. Lodi covers an area of 10.64 square miles at an elevation of 51 feet above sea level. The city’s population, as of January 1999, stands at 56,926. Under a cap established by the city, Lodi grows by about 2 percent per year or less.
A major wine grape growing region, Lodi is known as the zinfandel capital of the world. More than 75,000 acres of land in the Lodi-Woodbridge area are dedicated to growing wine grapes. Today, it is the state’s most productive growing region for premium wine grapes, producing an average of 350,000 tons of fruit annually. The Lodi-Woodbridge area is home to about a dozen wineries, big and small. Many have wine tasting available, either regularly scheduled in tasting rooms or by appointment.
San Joaquin County
San Joaquin County's population is approximately 523,000 people. The majority of these people (245,000) live in Stockton (the county seat). In addition to Stockton, there are another six incorporated cities: Lodi, Manteca, Tracy, Ripon, Escalon, Linden, and Lathrop. There are 1400 square miles of land in San Joaquin County, of which 783,715 acres are used for agriculture. Temperatures range from the January average of 53 degrees to the July average of 93 degrees. The average rainfall is 12 inches a year.
